The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule of India’s domestic season 2023–24 on Tuesday (April 11). A total of 1846 matches are to be played from the last week of June 2023 until the middle of March 2024.

The 2023–24 domestic season will kick off with the coveted Duleep Trophy from June 28, 2023, to July 16, 2023. The tournament will be followed by the Prof. Deodhar Trophy — Zonal List A tournament — to be played from July 24, 2023, to August 3, 2023.

The Prof. Deodhar Trophy — which wasn’t scheduled for the last 3 seasons due to the COVID pandemic — is making its comeback in this domestic season. Six zonal teams — Central, North, East, West, South, and North-East — will participate in both tournaments.

After that, the Irani Cup will be played at Rajkot between the defending Ranji Trophy champions, Saurashtra, and the Rest of India team. The tournament will commence on October 1, 2023.

Then the domestic season will move towards white-ball tournaments. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy — the T20 Championship — will be played from October 16 to November 6, 2023. Later, the tournament will be followed by the Vijay Hazare Trophy — the List A tournament — being played from November 23 to December 15, 2023.

A total of 38 teams will participate in both tournaments. The teams will be divided into three groups of 8 teams and two groups of 7 teams.

After the white-ball tournaments, India’s premier domestic tournament — the Ranji Trophy — will kick off on January 5, 2024, and go on until March 14, 2024.

The 38 Ranji teams will be divided into four Elite groups consisting of 8 teams each and one Plate group consisting of 6 teams.

The Elite group teams will play 7 matches in the league stage, with the top 2 teams from each group qualifying for the Quarterfinals. The Plate group teams will play 5 matches each, and the top 4 teams will make it to the semi-finals.

Now, moving on to women’s domestic season. Their season will commence with the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, which will be played from October 19 to November 9, 2023. It will be followed by the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy, to be played from November 24 to December 4, 2023.

Later, the domestic season will move on to the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, to be played from January 4, 2024, to January 26, 2024. The 37 teams will be split into two groups of 8 teams each and three groups of 7 teams each.

However, the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy, Senior Women’s InterZonal One Day Trophy, Under-19 Women’s T20 Challenge, and Under-19 Women’s Quadrangular tournaments — which were part of last season — have not been included in this season’s schedule.
