BCCI Announces a Whopping Increase in Prize Money for All Domestic Tournaments

The BCCI intends to strengthen the backbone of Indian domestic cricket.

Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced on Sunday, April 16, an increase in prize money for men’s and women’s domestic tournaments.

Through this, the BCCI intends to invest more money in domestic cricket, which is the backbone of Indian cricket. And rightly so, the domestic teams deserve this increase in prize money.

The winners of the Ranji Trophy — India’s premier tournament — will get Rs. 5 crores as per the revised fee structure. Previously, the winners were awarded Rs. 2 crores.

Also, the Ranji Trophy runners-up will be awarded Rs. 3 crores, and the semi-finalists will get Rs. 1 crore each.

Speaking of other multi-day tournaments, the winner of the Irani Cup will receive Rs. 50 lakhs as prize money instead of Rs. 25 lakhs. Before this restructuring, the Irani Cup runners-up didn’t get any prize money, but from the 2023–24 season, they will get Rs. 25 lakhs.

And the winner of the Duleep Trophy will get Rs. 1 crore, and the runners-up will bag Rs. 50 lakhs.

Coming to the white-ball tournaments, the Vijay Hazare Trophy winner will get Rs. 1 crore in place of Rs. 30 lakhs and the losing team will get Rs. 50 lakhs.

The winner of the coveted Prof. Deodhar Trophy — scheduled after 3 seasons — will take home Rs. 80 lakhs and the runners-up will get Rs. 20 lakhs.

While the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy winning team will bag Rs. 80 lakhs and the losing team will get Rs. 40 lakhs.

Apart from this, the premier women’s tournament will see an increase of 8X in prize money. This comes on the backdrop of a successful inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in March 2023.

Previously, the winner of the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy was awarded Rs. 6 lakhs, and the runner-up was awarded Rs. 3 lakhs. But as per the revised fee structure, the winner will get Rs. 50 lakhs and the runners-up will get Rs. 25 lakhs.

While the winner of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy will bag Rs. 40 lakhs instead of Rs. 5 lakhs and the runners-up will get Rs. 20 lakhs instead of Rs. 3 lakhs.

This is a welcome move, and it will eventually help boost India’s domestic cricket structure.
